Our History

Womack Eye Associates P.A. was founded in 1988 by Dr. Larry Womack. Dr. Womack arrived in Bemidji in 1985 and practiced with Dr. Jim Thompson and Dr. Wes Sondreal before establishing Womack Eye Associates. Since Dr. Womack began seeing patients over twenty years ago, the practice has grown to host two ophthalmologists and four optometrists, as well as a support staff of technicians, opticians, and assistants. Dr. Mark Shanfeld joined the practice in 1993 and practices comprehensive ophthalmology.

Womack Eye Associates has since become the largest independent ophthalmology practice in Bemidji and the surrounding area with three convenient locations.

Excellence

At Womack Eye, we are proud of our commitment to excellence. Our ophthalmologists were the first to introduce no-stitch cataract surgery, laser surgery, refractive surgery, and corneal transplants to our community. We are determined to continue to provide our patients with state-of-the-art eye care.
