Blepharitis is a common, recurring condition of the eyes involving
inflammation of the eyelids. Symptoms include a burning or
foreign body sensation, tearing, red and swollen eyelids, itching,
crusting on the eyelashes, dry eye, or any combination of these.
Blepharitis is commonly treated by keeping the eyelids clean,
using warm compresses and light scrubbing of the eyelid with
a cotton swab and baby shampoo. If symptoms do not decrease
with this treatment and your blepharitis becomes severe, your
doctor may prescribe antibiotics or eye drops.
Early treatment for many eye diseases may protect your vision.
