Before Your Exam

We encourage our new patients to review the following information about their upcoming eye exam. These details will help your visit with us flow smoothly and will help you understand more about each step in the process.

New patients need to fill out several registration forms before their appointment. If you plan on filling out the registration forms at the office before your appointment, please plan on arriving fifteen minutes prior to your appointment.

Also, we ask that you bring a list of any current medications, your current eyeglasses, and your medical insurance information with you. The receptionist will ask you for them when you register.

Plan on your exam lasting approximately one hour. This may vary depending upon daily circumstances, so feel free to double check this estimate with the receptionist when you arrive.

We recommend that parents or guardians of younger patients who will be considering the purchase of eyeglasses or contacts to attend the entire visit with the patient. Also, family members invited by patients considering surgical procedures are welcome to attend the exam as well.

Your Exam

Your exam will usually begin by visiting a technician. The technician will begin by gathering information about you and performing certain tests and measurements for your doctor. During this time, the technician will usually administer dilating drops.

When your eyes have sufficiently dilated, you will be seen by your doctor. Your doctor will review all the information and results that have been recorded and examine your eyes. He or she will answer your questions, discuss the exam results, and make any recommendations to you.

In some instances, your doctor may require tests in addition to your exam. Visual fields and eye photographs are sometimes necessary for your doctor to assess your individual situation. Additional tests are additional charges, and we encourage you to ask any questions you might have about
services or charges at any time.

When you have completed your visit, you can stop at our front desk to schedule any follow up visits your doctor may have recommended and pay for your current charges.
